Wayne Macafee is a mechanical engineer with the Penn State Facilities Engineering Institute (PSFEl) with a primary focus on central heating plants. His background and experience include 12 years as a nuclear-trained United States Navy submarine officer, 1½ years as a training developer and instructor for radiological controls with the United States Department of Energy, 6 years as a co-gen plant process engineer at International Paper's Lock Haven, Pennsylvania mill, and more than 20 years with PSFEI. Macafee brings a wide range of knowledge on steam systems, fluid systems, boiler control and instrumentation systems, fuels and fuel handling systems, and all other equipment associated with heating plants. Other areas of expertise include boiler emissions and air quality regulations, troubleshooting, data acquisition systems, and data analysis. Macafee holds a Bachelor of Science and Master of Engineering in nuclear engineering from Penn State.
